Blog Update - Chili Buffett!! March 29th, 2014

Our next to last Saturday Night dinner was designed to give the kitchen crew a break and let those of us who have benefited from their excellent service this year reward them with a dinner they did NOT have to prepare! So a chili buffett was planned with various residents providing their version of this wonderful dish, a salad supplied by a resident and plenty of fresh bread!

The chili was all lined up and ready to serve, right on time!



The cooking crew this year were served first! Thanks Jim and Laurie and Don and Frankie!



After dinner Walt Young played and the dancers danced the evening away!



Season winding down!!

It seems as though at every gathering we are saying goodbye and safe travels to more and more of our winter residents and looking forward to their return next fall!

Activities are winding down as well, but Wednesday Happy Hour and BBQ will continue for another week or so!

Blog Update - Another Busy Day at 29 Palms RV Resort

As the winter season winds down and some of our winter friends are departing almost daily, it is time to say Thanks to the people who have made the winter another huge success! 29 Palms RV Resort is fortunate in that we have a pretty large group of very active winter residents, some who have been coming here for nearly 17 years! Several of these people take a leadership role and make the season an active one for the rest of us.

Yesterday Al Werle from Roadrunner Dunes Golf Course threw a luncheon party for his winter customers and specifically to thank Don Nobert from 29 Palms RV Resort. Every year, Don heads up organizing the weekly Wednesday Scramble as well as several tournaments during the winter Months...it was time for Al and all the other participants to say thank you for a job well done. As an example there were over 40 participants in yesterdays scramble!

Don Nobert puts in a large amount of time making everything go smoothly.

After a great taco lunch some returned to golf another 9 holes and others headed back to rest for Happy Hour!

Wednesday evening Happy Hour is always a fun time - last night we had over 40 people and many brought something to throw on the BBQ and enjoy a nice dinner and listen to some wonderful music.





One more thing I might mention while we are thanking people - Don Nobert is not only involved with the golf, but he is also a very active part of our wonderful kitchen crew here at 29 Palms RV Resort. Don and his wife Frankie and Jim and Laurie Prestwood have done an exceptional job in our kitchen this season, our Saturday night dinners are wonderful and the various special occasions are a treat and it is all because of the wonderful winter residents who chip in and help! Let's not forget Pat Ruth and the 29 Palms Resort Acting Troupe for all the skits and fun she plans! Add in a little line dancing for even more fun!

We are also extremely lucky to have found Pat and John Jennette our activity directors for this season, they have done a marvelous job and they will be returning next year!

Today at 2:30 we are having an ice cream social and bingo at 3:30 so make a point of stopping by the clubhouse!

As we all begin to make our return home plans we wish everyone safe travels and "SEE YOU NEXT FALL"!!

Happy St Patricks Day from 29 Palms RV Resort!

It was a busy day yesterday at 29 Palms RV Resort - the morning started with our annual golf tournament which had over 50 participants and was sponsored by the 29 Palms RV Resort and played next door at the Road Runner Dunes Golf Course.

The round ended just in time for a wonderful lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, fresh salad and baked beans! Thanks Laurie and Frankie for a job well done!

I think I am going to return tomorrow!!

The afternoon fed right into our Saturday Night Dinner and St Patricks Day Celebration! The kitchen staff delivered a wonderful Traditional Irish Dinner with corned beef and cabbage potatoes and carrots and a salad and fresh bread! A fantastic meal!!

After dinner between some live music and dancing we were led in a few typical Irish Tunes by a few of our residents!











As the season winds down we say good bye to many of our friends and wish them safe travels and look forward to seeing them again next winter!

Saturday Night Luau!!! March 8th, 2014

It was a wonderful evening at the 29 Palms RV Resort Annual Luau...

The day was a long one - with the firepit opened about 1 pm and those wonderful Pork Roasts removed and taken to the kitchen so they could be shredded for the evenings meal! A very Special Thanks goes out to our wonderful Kitchen crew for a job well done, thanks Laurie and Jim and Frankie and Don.

It wasn't long before the crowd arrived - 80 plus people!



After a WONDERFUL dinner the music started and so did the dancing!



Very soon though it was time for the 29 Palms RV Park to crown Miss 29 Palms!

Trust me it was NOT a beauty contest!











By applause a winner was chosen and was crowned Miss Hawaii 29 Palms!



It was sure tough for the Judges to select a winner the applause for the entire group was so loud it was hard to decipher which one garnered the most applause!

Soon after the music cranked back up and it was time for more dancing which ran late into the night!



Sadly today, it was time to bid adieu to a few of our winter guests who started the long journey home. All we can say is safe travels and see you next winter!

Luau Weekend - Bury the Pig - March 7th, 2014

Luau Weekend got started today with the ceremonial burying of the pig and the blessing of the fire pit!

The fire pit was opened and a fire started early this morning to build up the coals for the long cook!



The Pork was carefully seasoned and wrapped in foil!



The Pina Colada's were carefully prepared in anticipation of the celebration!



The pork was carefully wrapped and wired in wet burlap!



The crowd gathered for the afternoon ceremony and Libations!





The Witch Doctor arrived right on time!



With his entourage of native dancers!





The fire was blessed with the Witch Doctors Magic Fire Dust!



The Witch Doctor and his Lovely Dancers joined in the celebration!



The "Crew" closed the fire pit!





Now we all wait anxiously for the re-opening of the pit in about 24 Hours!

The Luau is an annual event at 29 Palms RV Resort and it is always a great time - the celebration continues Saturday Evening with a huge feast and plenty of dancing and fun in the clubhouse!

Make plans to join in the celebration next winter at 29 Palms RV Resort - the place to spend the winter!!
